PADDLING Tours & Holidays

Paddle & Stroll

Icebergs & whales? This is your opportunity to visit both!

An unforgettable eight-day adventure, kayaking and hiking through Newfoundland's most inspiring and dramatic vistas. Joining us on the water will be massive Humpback whales and the most staggering displays nature has to offer – the icebergs. We meet these "vast cathedrals of ice" as they push south into the shipping lanes. On one leg of our journey, we paddle to the Viking site of L’Anse aux Meadows and spend the afternoon on Sacred Island, napping with the seals in the shade of a shipwreck. Spend peaceful nights in the comfortable luxury of our cozy, lighthouse inn. Our philosophy is "Enough activity in a day to appreciate supper and sleep well, but not enough to regret it next day."

Bored of whales yet? Humpbacks the size of busses jumping in the air becoming routine? Now we take to the air for a spectacular tour. Your flightseeing trip will take you over bays, bergs and more whales. It then heads west over a Canadian Heritage River and through 2000-foot fjords whose vertical faces slowly open to reveal the purest lake in the world. You’ll spend your last two days in Gros Morne National Park, a place with otherworldly landscapes and mountains beckoning the hiker. Fjords at your feet with moose and caribou as hiking companions, stretching your legs along the ancient earth’s mantle, climbing mountains that bring you to the most astounding views – what could be better?

Explore & Train

Explore and learn in safety and comfort

Tempted by the thought of a kayaking vacation but uncertain of your skill level? If so, this is your tour.

We often get enquiries from people interested in joining our tours who are nervous of their ability to keep up with the group and handle the sea conditions. We have designed this adventure with you in mind. This tour features short daily excursions which cover moderate distances. If you are looking for an endurance expedition, this isn't the tour for you.

Your kayaking adventure starts in very sheltered water for a few days and then gradually increases in the level of challenge until you are playing with whales in the open sea. In addition to improving your kayaking skills, you will be guided through Newfoundland's best scenery, including whales and icebergs.  Beach fires, mussel boils, great meals and local crafts are always a priority for us. Relaxed wandering along the coasts, hills and islands in search of animals and berries will also serve to rejuvenate your psyche. Daily activities are paced to ensure you enjoy the scenery, our unique culture, great food and, finally, comfy beds. In addition to memories and photos, this tour can result in your achieving CRCA Level 1 or BCU Star 2 certification so you can prove how great a kayaker you have become.

Play with the Bergs

Imagine this...

Your tour begins at Round Harbour, the quintessential fishing village where the modern world has yet to leave its print. Not even roads have made it around the side of the harbour where our traditional outport houses are perched overlooking fishing stages. While it is soothing to sit on the porch watching the relaxed pulse of the outport life as the boats come and go, be sure to wander down and have a chat as they unload their catches.

After a great sleep, slip your bow out of the narrow mouth of this aptly named round harbour and as far as you can see north and south are cliffs and tree covered hills dropping into the ocean. A cruise along this coast reveals coves and bays that magically open up as you draw near. They can take you for miles inland or unveil other small communities still at peace with the sea and its rhythms. Let's paddle south to the abandoned village of Indian Burial Place where you will be left breathless by its beauty and ambience. It really is remarkable - a deserted community with homes collapsing, doors swinging open, horses wandering through houses but furniture still in place and clothing in the closets. Poignant. All this with a chance of whales and bergs joining you.

Per Person Price:  $380 CDN based on double occupancy / $420 CDN single
