KAYAK ICEBERG ALLEY

Paddle among floating ice palaces.

This tour takes place in waters around Quirpon Island, a remote island in the heart of spectacular 'iceberg alley.'  Quirpon Island is Newfoundland's most Northerly point and one of its best locations for viewing icebergs and whales.

Writer Byron Ricks visited Quirpon Island on assignment for National Geographic Adventure magazine. He described his experience this way: "Cresting six foot waves in Grand Galets Bay, we quickly found our first berg, a spectacular twin spired cathedral twirling in the current. I'd once paddled the entire Inside Passage from Alaska's ice-choked Glacier Bay to Puget Sound, but I'd never seen anything like this" (National Geographic Adventure, June 2002).

KAYAK CAPE ANGUILLE

On the southwest corner of Newfoundland lies the province’s premium bird watching site. Our first paddle along the sheer cliffs to the north provided sightings of Harlequin Ducks, Osprey and Bald Eagles. All this and waterfalls plunging 200 feet into the water. After an amazing night at the new Cape Anguille Lighthouse Inn we set out through the sheltered estuary to spot the Great Blue Herons and some of the over 25 species of ducks that inhabit this area. After the day is over hike the shores and hills surrounding this Ramsar Convention certified International Wetlands. Not a birder? Neither are most of our guests but they are still enchanted with the gentle scenery and the possibility of spotting Echo, the resident Beluga whale.
